Se laissent attacher, et tuent son cœur gris ;

[To pornography the beautiful, delighted blue eyes
Let themselves attach, and they kill his grey heart;
His mind numb with deranged ecstasies
Almost disapproves of the evil of his thoughts:
“I see that reason cedes to violence,”
Says the sad young man as he breaks the silence.

Chastity forgotten by the unknowing earth
Is altogether lost, or hidden powerless?]

* From Jean Racine’s Phèdre, concerning the conquering power of love/lust.
