Four Maxims. A Hebrew Proverb. Of the Wise Man.

  1. Not knowledge, not intelligence, but a soft heart—this is what stuns us most when we finally meet a wise man.
  2. The wise man refuses to live for pain or for pleasure, yet he thanks God for them both.
  3. A man is wisest in the instant he yields, with thanksgiving, to a friend’s rebuke.
  4. Gentleness, more than correctness, defines the wise man.

Reprove a wise man, and he will love you.

Proverbs 9:8 (ESV)
