A Criticism. Of Popular “Philosophy.” Of Popular “Science.”

Concerning the ancient texts of philosophy, one of the fathers of modernism and scientism observes that we have lost what is maybe most worthwhile* and have inherited what “suits and pleases the capacity and tastes of the vulgar,”† for time, “like a river,” carries only what is “light and puffed up” while “letting weighty matters sink.”

And I wonder what he might think if he were alive to see how—how popular his methods and principles have become.


* Empedocles, Heraclitus, etc.
