An Observation. Of Youth. Of Maturity.

Sometimes we are deceived into believing a teenager is “mature” when he is only exceptionally imaginative or imitative. He repeats adult insights in a reflective tone, so we regard him as if he has outgrown youth because he seems to have understood it. But in fact he is in the midst of it: in words he distances himself from youth to win his elders’ approval, yet the desperate craving for this approval is characteristic, precisely, of youth and immaturity.
