Two Comments. Of Voting. Cf. Thoreau, Hobbes.

  1. Principled abstention in an election is not shameful—unless voting has no more significance than throwing dice.
  2. Only those who abstain from voting are in a position to complain about the majority’s tyranny. Those who voted, even if they voted against the majority, tacitly agree with the system of majority rule; their loud whining shows that they think of the republican system how a child thinks of a card game.
